ACB sleuths seized documents and expose disproportionate assets amassed by him
Bengaluru, June 17: In a mega raid, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths have swooped down on 21 highly corrupt sharks and seized loads of cash, documents, valuables and jewellery. Interestingly, what caught the eye of ACB is wealth amassed by PWD engineer G Manjunath.
His amassed wealth baffled ACB officials and wondered how a PWD engineer can own such huge wealth. The officials have seized documents of a huge commercial complex in Jayanagar (Chaitanya Gold) and rented to a lift company. The complex has been registered in the name of his wife Umadevi. The commercial building alone is worth Rs. 20 crore, the officials estimated.
That is not it. His wealth grows endlessly! He owns a house in one of the city’s posh localities Basaveshwaranagar. A posh apartment in KR Puram and four acres of land at Chunchaghatta.
Officials revealed that already, ACB had received a complaint stating that Manjunath had amassed disproportionate wealth and requested for a thorough probe to be conducted to initiate action under prevention of corruption act.
The complaint also stated that Manjunath had arm twisted, intimidated and brow-beated officials working in Stamps and registration department when he was posted there on deputation. He was allegedly working at a tout to get officials transferred to different posts and different offices. He was a gold egg laying goose for himself and a few top brass, added sources.
Several documents relating to revenue department and sub registrars have been seized from the houses of Manjunath. Officials questioned why he had such crucial documents when he was retired already.
