Truth Triumphs

She is a woman!

GUEST COLUMN: Dr. N Prabhudev

8 March is International Women’s Day – devoted to seeking gender equality.

Without women nothing is possible for men – he can’t even be born! I acknowledge and appreciate all the incredible women who have paved the way for us and continue to inspire us every day.
Beginning of the end of millennial male dominance. Play like a Man, Win like a Woman
H.G. Wells puts it, ‘Beauty is in the heart of the beholder. From the eyes it has moved to the Heart! I strongly believe- There is a charm in each of God’s creations; it just needs the right pair of eyes to see it.
Women’s day need not be an expensive affair but nevertheless I believe women are a precious lot. Women, this Women’s Day, take your man out as a surprise. Have a cosy, pleasant atmosphere, and, best of all, you are taking him out. Regardless of our gender, we all need to be loved and respected. When an eagle soars high we marvel at its flight – not its gender.
Man and woman- are equal! In 1966, music legend James Brown recorded “It’s a Man’s, Man’s,- World”- not anymore. Woman- You are strong and pretty from being only pretty! Women now account for a larger portion of breakthroughs in science and economics. Now is the best time ever to be a woman. God gave women intuition and femininity. Used properly, the combination easily jumbles the brain of any man in the world.
Forget the dubious title of “weaker sex”. Whether it’s battling ailments such as illnesses and disease, or simply living a longer life, women truly are stronger than men – research proves it. Women constantly outlive men by an average of five or six years. Women have resistance to almost all the major causes of death. 12 of the 15 most common causes of death, which include cancer and heart disease, killed women at a lower rate than men.
Women and men are a matter of chromosomes, genes, hormones, and nerve circuits. Humans are born with 46 chromosomes in 23 pairs. The X and Y chromosomes determine a person’s sex. Women are 46XX and men are 46XY.The X chromosomes are larger than the Y chromosomes. The two X chromosomes are larger and therefore contain more DNA. So Women have more DNA than men!
Women – stop claiming –“A woman is equal to man, better than man, if a man can do so can a woman”. It is for men folks to do!
Women are the pioneers and are the key to sustainable development and quality of life in the family. Role the women in the family are those of wife, leader, administrator, manager of family income and important – the mother. She sets standard of morality. She is the inspiration to man for high worth achievements in life. She stands by him in all the crises. she shares all successes and pleasures.
She is the first teacher of the child. Mother is the first family health officer. She is the harbinger of peace and the source of power and symbol of progress. Begin a new era of progressive thoughts – a woman is neither a poetic entity nor a symbol of beauty and poignancy. She is neither weak nor strong. Such words do not figure in her dictionary. She is neither from Venus nor cares who is from Mars.
She knows who she is! She has weeded off the boundaries that limited her. You cannot demean, control, subjugate her.
Our religious beliefs make women a goddess but we fail to recognize her as a human being; we worship goddesses but we exploit girls. We are a society with double-standards. The most important prerequisites for global prosperity is gender parity. The denial of such equality, in whatever form, perpetrates an injustice against one half of the world’s population and promotes in men harmful attitudes.
Reality
Woman – you are not equal Even if you feel like you are. At least not yet!

  1. You still make less than a man for doing the same work as a CEO, as an athlete, as an actress, as a doctor. You make less in government, in the tech industry. Why?
  2. You are still objectified and often catcalled. You are still judged on your outfit rather than your talent. The branded bag you carry matters more than your college degree. Why?
  3. Rape and pillage have been going on for millennia and I’m not convinced they are going to be eradicated anytime soon. Why?
  4. Women do, on average, about 66 percent of the unpaid work. Why?
You still have to prove to the court that you were raped. You still have to go back to work while your body is broken and while you silently suffer from postpartum depression. Yet the ideological battle is far from won: harassment, trolling and misogyny are commonplace.
You are still being abused by your husband, by your boyfriend, murdered by your partners. Your daughters are still told to behave even though “boys will be boys.” Often Women experience domestic violence.
Women’s empowerment can positively influence the lives not only of women themselves but also of men and children. To be truly inclusive means consciously creating a culture and environment that values diversity and ensures that everyone feels respected, heard, and included. Digital technologies can potentially transform women’s lives across the globe. Women now drive the global economy; they control about $20 trillion in annual consumer spending. Women also make over 70 percent of all consumer purchasing decisions. All cheers to women!
