PSI recruitment scam: IPS officer Amrit Paul

Monday is black day for IAS and IPS officers as an IAS and an IPS officer has been arrested by two different investigation agencies.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Karnataka police has arrested Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Amrit Paul on Monday in connection with police sub-inspectors (PSI) recruitment scam while a former deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Urban J Manjunath has been arrested in connection with corruption charges pertaining to a land.

Paul has been produced before the 1st ACMM court in Bengaluru and was sent to CID custody till July 13.

Senior IPS officer Amrit Paul was head of the recruitment cell when the scam came to light in April this year. The govt had transferred him after the scam surfaced under his tenure and was posted in the Internal Security Division, Bengaluru.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the government was
committed to cleanse the system through unbiased probe.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a function, he said, “the CID has been given a free hand to investigate the PSI recruitment scam. They have taken action based on the evidence. Our government will act against the guilty even if it happens to be top officials.”

“The earlier governments had not bothered to investigate even when voices were raised against such scams during their regime,” Bommai said.
