CM Bommai offer Bagina to Krishne River

Government sanctions Rs 10,000 crore for UKP: CM Bommai

Bagalkot, Sept.30: The State government is spending Rs 10,000 crore in the current year on all works related to the Upper Krishna Project, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking after offering the bagina to River Krishna at Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir and performing Ganga Puja at Almatti on Friday, he said already two to three rounds of meetings have been held with Departments of Finance and Water Resources regarding increasing the dam height.

It has been decided to spend Rs 10,000 crore on rehabilitation, reconstruction, shifting, construction of canals and other works. Thanks to copious rains this year, nearly 80 per cent of tanks are full resulting in an increase in underground water level.

The current dam height will be increased from the present 519.06 meters to 524 meters and several steps are initiated in this regard. A case is in final stages in the Supreme Court and there is delay in the final verdict due to non-appointment of new judges. The new judges are expected to be appointed in this month and the final notification is likely to come out.

Out of 14 villages to be affected, four villages have come for payment of compensation for which Rs 3900 crore will be released within a month. The rest villages will get compensation in January, 2023. The survey of another six villages has started and necessary action will be taken for the disbursal of compensation.

He said after the court’s verdict, several works are planned for the water which is stored up to 519.06 meters. Steps are taken for 9 schemes including Mulwad, Chimmalagi and Koppal Lift Irrigation schemes. While impounding water is one work and other job is utilization of the stored water.

Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol, PWD and Bagalkot District-In-Charge Minister C.C.Patil, MP Ramesh Jigajinagi, MLAs A.S.Patil Nadahalli, Shivanand Patil, MLCs P.H.Pujar, former MLAs Srikant Kulkarni, S.K.Bellubbi, Appu Pattanshetty and KBJL Managing Director B.S.Shivakumar and others were present.

Bhumi puja

The CM also performed the bhumi puja for the construction of a new guest house in Lal Bahadur Shastri Dam area in Almatti.
