Bangalore, June 24: Governor of Karnataka, Thaawarchand Gehlot, emphasized the significance of Sanskrit in Indian tradition, describing it as the soul of India and a vital link between our past and present.
He made these remarks during the Foundation Day celebrations of Karnataka Samskrit University in Bangalore, which also featured a book release ceremony and the felicitation of winners from the 61st All India Shastra Competition, held at Raj Bhavan.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot highlighted the integral role of Samskrit in our culture and its pervasive importance across various fields. “Sanskrit is said to be the world’s oldest living language, encompassing a vast body of knowledge in poetry, logic, grammar, philosophy, aesthetics, science, technology, mathematics, and related subjects,” he stated.
He praised the establishment of Karnataka Samskrit University in 2010, which aims to advance higher education and research in Sanskrit language and literature. “Since its inception, this university has worked diligently to fulfill its mission, gaining recognition and numerous awards in various activities,” the Governor noted.
During the event, five new books were released. The governor expressed confidence that these books would serve as valuable resources for students and enhance the knowledge of the general public.
The Governor also congratulated the students who secured the “Vijaya Vyjayanti” award in the 61st All India Shastra Competition, held in Ayodhya. He lauded the university’s consistent success in this competition over the years. “Our students have won an impressive 15 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals, along with 2 special awards. Their proficiency in astronomy, poetry, literature, and grammar has brought great credit to the University and the State of Karnataka,” he remarked.
He expressed hope that Karnataka Samskrit University will continue to play a pivotal role in promoting Sanskrit. The event was attended by Dr. Ahalya Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University, among other dignitaries.
