GUEST COLUMN: Dr. N. Prabhudev
Formal Education Is The Key to Success. Teachers Shape the Future Generations. They Unlock students’ Full Potential. They change lives and inspire dreams, Give Children Self-Worth, Inspire Curiosity and to get Creative. They prepare future leaders and innovators!
Science is objective and Art is subjective. Science is Practical and theoretical and Art is conceptual. Skilful presentation of facts, ideas and techniques is the Art.
Teaching is not a lost art. But the regard for teaching is a lost tradition.
For every person wishing to teach, there are 30 wishing not to be taught. Vision is the art of seeing the invisible. An inspiring teacher is a visionary. Every day children make countless transitions between two learning environments – Home and school and between two sets of educators—parents and teachers.
Parents are a child’s first teachers. The parent-teacher-student relationship can deliver a collaborative partnership, linking home and school in a climate of trust and respect. When parents and teachers are united in their aims and expectations, children enjoy coming to school. Child’s teacher is the second most important person in the child’s life after the parents.
A Teacher is a Third Parent!
There are teachers your child will love and teachers your child may not. There are teachers you’ll like and dislike as well. There are teachers who may adore your child, and those who just don’t understand him. Teachers make pupils feel loved and cared and safe. Never let fear be your image. Relationship between a teacher and a student should be both personal and professional. Create trusting partnerships with parents.
Communicate with the students like a friend, guide and a mentor. Make teaching your life and not a job that pays the bills. In today’s world, teaching is a multifaceted profession; teachers often carry the roles of a surrogate parent, disciplinarian, mentor, counsellor, role model, planner- all in one! Although the expectations are often high, the pay is low, and working conditions can be tough.
Be interactive. Be Pleasant and witty! This comforts the student! Ask and Answer the questions! Example is much better than advice. Teaching is twice learning! Give him the platform to express himself. Teach fast enough to keep their interest in the topic and slow enough to understand! The test of a good teacher is how many questions he inspires them to ask which he finds it hard to answer. Teachers should acknowledge their inadequacies and indulge in Passionate pursuit of knowledge. Teacher competency, for long years, has been a matter of concern.
Teaching is a science, an art, and a craft.
