Chilume voter data theft:
Bangalore, Dec. 24: In a major development and relief to two IAS officer, the state government has revoked suspension of two IAS officers on Saturday and shown them new postings.
It may be recalled that Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) had on November 26th suspended K Srinivas, deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Urban and S Rangappa, BBMP special commissioner, as Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai promised an “impartial probe” into voter data theft. This was done as per the Election Commission’s directive.
Mr. Srinivas has been posted as the Managing Director of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation and Mr. S. Rangappa as Executive Director of Karnataka State Minerals Limited.
On November 17, the ECI received reports that an NGO, Chilume Educational Cultural and Rural Development Trust, was collecting voter data in Bengaluru city in the garb of awareness activities through a house-to-house survey in BBMP areas.
CEO had appointed seven IAS officers for complete review of deletion, inclusion and correction of names in the Electoral roll. Further, special review of electoral roll has ben has been announced with regard to Chikpet, Shivajinagar and Mahadevapura zones.
