Bengaluru, Dec. 24: ‘Midnight Walkathon’ at Malleswaram on account of birthday celebration of former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee took place amidst large gathering on Saturday.
In the event which took place in the presence of MLA Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, thousands of people participated despite the chilling cold weather.
More than 7,000 people participated in the Walkathon which started off at 11.00 pm from the Malleswaram ground. Ther run passed through UPSC Guttahalli, Skywalk Guttahalli, Sankey tank, Government College 18th cross before culminating at Chandrashekhar Azad ground. During the run the gathering raised slogans hailing late Vajpayee.
As part of the programme cultural events were also held starting from 9:00 p.m.
BBMP schools and local organisations participated in singing Patriotic songs, folk songs, film songs and performed dances.
Winners of the competitions were presented with Finisher medals and certificates. Mini dinner was also arranged.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narayan said that Malleswara was being developed based on the five pillars of education, sports, health, citizen safety and creating beautiful environment.
‘Project Surya’ initiative to support children suffering from type- 1 diabetes was also launched which aims providing financial support and insulin.
Local BJP leaders and workers of the party were present.
