Books FIR and seizes cash and documents
Bangalore, Nov. 6: Following complaints about rampant corruption and tout menace at sub-registrar officers in Bengaluru and the surrounding areas Lokayukta sleuths raided over 20 sub-registrar offices in on Thursday.
The search began at 15 places in Bengaluru Urban, four in Bengaluru Rural and two in Ramanagara on Tuesday afternoon by around 150 Lokayukta police officials.
During the raid the officials seized Rs 7 lakh in cash and are checking documents, including receipts for services offered at sub-registrar offices, to find out the possible corruption practices. The officials also questioned touts who were present in and around the offices.
Lokayukta police had registered an FIR after receiving complaints from the public that middlemen demand bribes to facilitate service delivery at sub-registrar offices. The cops subsequently obtained permission from the court to conduct the raids.
The raids were conducted at Bannerghatta, Yelahanka, Kacharakanahalli, Basavanagudi, Mahadevapura, Varthur, Domlur, Bommanahalli, Begur, JP Nagar, Banashankari, Banaswadi, Nagarabhavi, Kengeri and Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Nelamangala, Anekal, Hoskote, Ramanagara and Kanakapura sub-registrat offices.
