KSRTC accident victims’ kin get Rs 10 Lakh compensation

Bengaluru, Feb. 20: For the first time ever, a cheque of Rs 10 lakh accident compensation was issued to the dependents of the deceased, a passenger who was traveling in the KSRTC bus.
The cheque was given away by the Transport and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy and KSRTC Chairman SR Srinivas (Vasu) on Monday.

A KSRTC bus en route Dharmasthala met with an accident on February 4 involving the killing of a 34-year-old GN Amrit on the spot near Bage near Sakaleshpur.

Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the compensation amout for passengers has been hiked to Rs. 10 lakh from Rs. 3 lakh  However, the loss of life is irrecoverable and incomparable. But accidents are accidental.

Offering his condolences to the family members of the deceased Mr Reddy handed over the cheque to the deceased’s father GD Nagaraj.

In an attempt to reduce road accidents, flasks (to drink coffee, tea, hot water) have been given to the drivers who are on  night duty, he added.

President Srinivas said that the organization has taken several measures to prevent accidents and condoled with the family for the loss.

KSRTC Managing Director V. Anbukumar, Staff and Vigilance Director Dr. Nandini Devi, officers and staff were present on the occasion.
