Belagavi: A meeting chaired by Basavaraja Horatti, Chairperson of the legislative council was held here in Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday to find a solution to address the grievances of over 14,000 guest lecturers who are protesting to address their demands.
The meeting attended by Dr.C.N.Ashwatha Naryana and MLCs of teachers and graduates constituencies also asked the committee constituted to look into the issues of guest lecturers to submit the report within a month.
ACS of Finance department and Pradeep P, Commissioner, DCTE who are members of the panel responded positively and said the report will be submitted within the given set time limit.
The grievances and demands of guest lecturers will be discussed with the Chief Minister after receiving the panel’s report. The fact how West Bengal and some other states have found the solution to this will also be looked into, Minister Narayana told.
Should preference need to be given to these guest lecturers during appointments for filling vacant posts or should they be continued by fixing a decent salary will also be discussed, he stated. Further, Minister opined, the root cause of the problem lies in the non-appointment of lecturers in due time. At present, the entire faculty is dependent on guest lecturers and a solution to this will be found after the submission of the report by the panel, he told.
At the same time, he told, that all the guest lecturers who are in protest should return to their work. Saying that the government is committed to reviewing their demands, he warned of strict action against those who resort to continue the ongoing protest.
During the meeting, Horatti appreciated the efforts of the Department of Higher Education is putting in to resolve the issue of guest lecturers.
YA Narayana Swamy, KT Srikanthe Gowda, Bhojegowda, Arun Shahapura, Ayanuru Manjunatha, Sangamesha Nirani (All MLCs), ISN Prasad, ACS, Department of Finance, Pradeep P, Commissioner, DCTE, and others attended the meeting.
