Government will not compromise on Kannada interest : DCM

Bengaluru, June 21 Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today said that the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah has never compromised on the Kannada language.

Speaking after breaking the ground for the bronze statue of Nadadevi Bhuvaneshwari in Vidhana Soudha premises on Thursday, he said, “Vidhana Soudha premises houses statues of Ambedkar, Basavanna and Kempe Gowda. Goddess Bhuvaneshwari’s statue must be there in this seat of power. We are setting up the 25-feet bronze statue to commemorate the 50th anniversary of renaming the state as Karnataka.

“It was our government that made Kannada mandatory in sign boards. Many pro-Kannada organisations have fought for this. No one is permanent in this world, only the legacy we leave behind is permanent. I congratulate the Kannada and Culture department for the statue of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari.

Asked about NEET exams, he said, “Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan himself has admitted that there have been irregularities. Supreme Court’s notice to National Testing Agency is a good move. The future of our children is important.”

Asked if he would contest the Channapatna by election, he said, “The party will decide that. Ramanagar district has three of four Congress MLAs. One needs to change.”
