Truth Triumphs

You can be rich! Only you have to pay the price!

GUEST COLUMN: Dr N Prabhudev

Bengaluru, Feb. 3:
People say ‘money can’t buy happiness,’ it’s not exactly wrong — but it’s not exactly true either,
Every dream has a process and a price tag. Those who embrace the process and pay the price, live the dream. Those who don’t, just dream! What you have become is the price you paid to get what you used to want. No one achieves sustainable success without having to pay the price. No one will bring you your dream on a silver platter.
When you have Money with you, you forget who you are! When you do not have money, others forget who you are! The man who damns money has obtained it dishonourably; the man who respects it has earned it respectfully.
The system seems stacked against the poor, change is possible. Education, social programs, and policy reforms can help level the playing field. But it requires a shift in both mind-set and systems. The Rich work for themselves to get richer! The poor work for rich people to make them richer!
You’re not rich until you have things money can’t buy! Money Cannot Create More Time! Time is – one of our most valuable possessions. Use it wisely! Money can buy you medicine and not health – yes, medicine may or may not cure you when you are sick!!!Money you have can make others trust you but it is up to you to be trustworthy! Be truthful! Be kind and courteous! Be grateful! Hold on to your family and friends! They will never go out of fashion!
It has almost become a cliché! The poor work hard – in rain and storm, or even when they are sick or dying. The rich and well known stay cocooned in their little ivory towers and enjoy the fruits of somebody else’s labour. They are more often on the golf course or at their club or at a corporate “retreat” downing liquor and eating rich food!
Money is the currency! Wealth refers to Assets! Money is necessary for meeting our day-to-day needs and desires! Wealth builds a solid foundation for long-term financial stability and prosperity. It earns you income even when you are asleep! Money gives you instant gratification.
Best Things in Life are for Free!
Sure, money can buy a lot of things — but that’s it. They’re just things. Many people will go to any lengths to get their hands on what they desire. Objects can only make you temporarily happy because of hedonic adaptation! It is not wrong to want nice things! We all do! But they shouldn’t put a burden on minds or live an unnecessarily stressful life.
Smell of fresh flowers, Sip of first coffee of the day, attitude of gratitude, Good music you love, helping a stranger, soothing sounds of water, a soothing shower, a warm hug and a kiss and a hearty laughter! A smile! You can’t put a price point on your loved ones. A good night’s rest! Nostalgia is one of our mind’s greatest indulgences — and it’s totally OK to embrace it.
When I was young I thought money was everything! Now that I am not so young I am convinced – it is! Price is what you pay; value is what you get. Money vs. moments – should they be in conflict? Money is a source of pride or comfort for some and guilt, stress, or shame for others. Money is only a tool. It will give you the means for the satisfaction of your desires! Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.”
Money gives you power, dignity and honour. Money by itself is neither good nor bad. Usage of money makes it good or bad. Choice is yours!
No one has more money! Many of us have less!
Everyone talks about money — some because they don’t have enough, some wish to make more, and some are simply obsessed with it! To go after money is greed. Have money and flaunt it – it is vulgar! Spend it without care – is reckless! Giving it to others in need for a good deed- money is well spent and takes you straight to gods abode!
Money is everywhere. Most people are not trained to see it. How much money is too much? The relative comfort of financial stability is something everyone strives for. The core issue isn’t money itself; it is greed and pride, and the relentless pursuit of power. In today’s world, the dominance of money is obvious, but so too is the reach of greed. When greed takes hold, money becomes a weapon!
Even the world’s richest folks can’t escape illness. At the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 was often depicted as an agent of random chaos, a disease that affected everyone irrespective of their race, gender, or socioeconomic status. On virtually every count, this assumption has proved to be false. Although the coronavirus managed to disrupt how human beings live and work, it didn’t do so proportionally. The crisis hit an unequal world and, when it did, exacerbated those inequalities.
By and large, living through the worst of the pandemic has been easier for the wealthy! Many could afford mitigating health risks. The superrich got even richer. Quite a few became billionaires over the course of the pandemic! Money has power to bring people together and also tear them apart. Once we escape the trap of poverty, levels of wealth have a modest impact on levels of happiness – The Easterlin paradox!
In life, there are countless things that money can buy! There are many priceless experiences and emotions beyond its reach. Many things in life do not carry a price tag! They have a value tag!
