Free distribution of notebooks, bags and learning accessories
Bengaluru, Jan. 29: Media is being looked at suspiciously in the recent days and the media must work towards shedding such an image and work meaningfully, suggested former justice Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde.
Participating at the distribution of free notebooks, bags and learning accessories to students of government school and awards to deserving personalities on Sunday organised by the Suvarna Karnataka Digital Media Association (SKDMA) he said that the media is growing immensely and has developed into different branches like print, electronic and digital media. All the mediums of mass media must work towards keeping up the values of the society.
Media is not a constitutional body. But plays a crucial role of watch dog for judiciary, legislator and Executive. Media should not bow down or fall pray for any kind of inducements that affect the health of the society. Media must work in a positively for the welfare of the society, said Hegde.
Digital media is growing beyond anybody’s imagination and expectations and so are challenges, said Prasad Nayak, Vijaya Karnataka online editor.
Digital media has not got any recognition yet. Reforms, checks and balances are required in digital media, he felt.
Digital media is being used in a negative manner to create a rift between actors and actresses, said Umesh Banakar, President, Karnataka Film Producers’ Association. Social media is being used to spark off some controversy. Digital Media should strive to eradicate such developments, he added.
Actress Anu Ayyappa, SKDMA president Gandasi Sadanand Swamy, Padma Shivamogga president of Women Journalists’ Association, AA Vishwanath, social worker and a lot of social workers were present on the occasion.
