Bengaluru, June 12: The State government has laid special emphasis to construct 1 lakh houses in urban areas, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.
The Chief Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for construction of 1588 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency.
Govt. to provide bank guarantee
State government has completed construction of 52,000 houses. Work orders would be issued for construction of another 50,000 houses this year. Completion of the houses is being delayed as there is a delay on part of the beneficiaries in paying their share of the cost. “So realising the difficulty of the poor beneficiaries, the state government will provide Bank Guarantee and procure a Rs 500 cr loan to help the poor. The beneficiaries would be allowed to pay their part of the cost in installments,” Bommai said.
5000 acres of government land for housing
State government has taken a major initiative to provide housing for all the homeless in the next 5 years. Government is aware of the challenges in meeting the target. “We are completing 5 lakh houses now. The housing subsidy for SC, ST communities has been raised from Rs 1.75 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. About 5000 acres of government lands have been identified to distribute sites and build houses for the poor,” Bommai said.
Construction of 1588 houses, for which foundation stone was laid, would be completed in a time bound manner, he said.
