Karnataka govt receives 10,000 applications for PM-Surya Ghar: Mufti Bijli Yojana

bengaluru, June 9: The Karnataka government, in strong partnership with the Ministry of New Renewable Energy, flagged the Surya-Rath Yatra at the BESCOM Corporate office to popularise PM-Surya Ghar: Mufti Bijli Yojana and solarise one crore households in the country. The flag-off was in the presence of Dinesh Dayanand Jagdale, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy Department), Govt of Karnataka, Gaurav Gupta, Mahantesh Bilagi, Managing Director, BESCOM, K.P Ruddrappiah MD KREDL, Darshan, BESCOM Director (Finance) and other department officials, demonstrating the government’s strong commitment to renewable energy and reassuring the audience of its confidence in the scheme.

“The PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, also known as the Prime Minister’s Solar Home Scheme, is a transformative government initiative. Ten thousand household have registered for this scheme since its launch in the state. To execute this scheme, 229 private vendors have also been registered. We aim to promote the scheme under the able leadership of our Energy Minister KJ George to promote the use of solar energy in households across India, thereby reducing our dependence on conventional energy sources and contributing to our national renewable energy targets,” Additional Chief Secretary (Energy Department), Govt of Karnataka, Gaurav Gupta, said during the workshop, highlighting the benefits of the scheme and empowering the audience with this knowledge.

The Energy Department also held a day-long workshop in Bengaluru with MNRE officials, Vendors and BESCOM to brainstorm and discuss the implementation of the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Context On PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
The government of India has launched a groundbreaking scheme for the rooftop solar segment – PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. With a total outlay of Rs 750 billion until 2025-26, the scheme aims to provide free electricity up to 300 units monthly to 10 million households across the country. The scheme has received an overwhelming response, with over 10 million registrations within a month of its launch in February 2024. This remarkable participation is a testament to the potential and promise of the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, instilling us with a sense of hope and optimism for its future.
