Bengaluru, May 13: It is not the capitalists who are running the country, it is the working class which is driving the economy of the nation. Those who are at the bottom of the social pyramid are the real shakers and movers of a nation’s economy. Hence our government is giving top priority for the welfare of the working class, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.
The Chief Minister was addressing a workshop of the Intellectuals’ Forum of the Madiga community as part of the 4th World Madiga Day celebrations.
“We are striving to bring social and economic dynamism, mobility among the weaker sections, SC and ST communities through special welfare programmes. We can bring a change in their life through education, employment and empowerment,” Bommai said.
The social order prefers to maintain the status quo, the architects of the Constitution have made several provisions in the Constitution to bring social and economic mobility for the oppressed classes. As to how far their objective is realised would depend on those who are in power to implement them, Bommai said.
Best Constitution
Indian Constitution is the best in the world, Bommai said, it has the dynamics to change it according to the changing social, economic and other scenarios of the times, he added.
The Chief Minister called upon the Madiga Thinkers’ Forum to strive for preparing the community to adapt to the changing social order in the context of market forces dictating the policies in the era of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation.
The oppressed classes could join the social mainstream through education. Dr. BR Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram have played a stellar role in empowering the weaker sections to be self-reliant and lead a dignified life. Bommai assured that the State government is with the Madiga community in implementing the suggestions they present for the development and welfare of the community.
