Donors play crucial role in saving lives of accident victims

Bengaluru, October 31: A mega blood donation camp was organised by Congress on Tuesday on the occasion of martyrdom day of our Indian iron lady and former prime minister Indira Gandhi, at Chikkaballapur and Bengaliru rural districts.

Nearly 1000 people donated blood to save those in need and the mega blood donation camp was organised under the aegis of National Youth Congress General Secretary MS Raksha Ramaiah. The blood camps were arranged at Devanahalli, Bagepalli, Doddaballapur, Yalahanka, Chikkaballapur, Gouribidanur, Nelamangala and Hosakote assembly constituencies to encourage the youth and to create awareness about the importance of blood donation.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Ramaiah said that blood is very essential to save lives. No amount of technology advancement can produce an alternative to blood. Blood cannot be created artificially and the precious red blood has to be produced from human body, he said.

Only blood donors can save the lives of victims of accidents, those desperately require blood during crucial surgeries and other such situations, he added.

Donating blood stimulates human body to develop fresh blood cells and does not have any adverse effect on donors. Healthy people in the age group of 18 to 60 years weighing not less than 55 kgs can donate blood, said Mr Ramaiah.
