Congress has equated investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the alleged police atrocities on Dalit Koraga community members as an eye wash.
Addressing reporters, former minister and senior Congress leader U.T. Khader demanded that the probe be conducted by the sitting or retired district judge.
“The government has handed over the investigation to CID. But, we cannot expect justice from the CID which is a wing of state police department. The probe must be done by either sitting or retired judge,” he demanded.
On December 27 night, Kota police of Udupi district barged into the Mehendi ceremony organised in Koraga community locality in Kotatottu village in Kundapur city of Udupi district and attacked the bridegroom and guests for playing loud music. It is alleged that the police have acted at the behest of upper caste people’s diktats.
Earlier, Oppositon leader Siddaramaiah had charged that the police had planned attack on Dalit Koraga community.
“The police have foisted false cases on Koraga community,” Siddaramaiah said.
Siddaramaiah has also urged the CM Bommai to take action against the police who attacked innocent Koraga community members.
Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has paid a visit to the locality and assured of action. “We will discuss on the complaint lodged by the police against Koraga community members. The government is with the victims and action will be initiated in such a way that it doesn’t affect the community,” he stated.
