Centre must arrest Adani to save India’s reputation: DCM

Bengaluru, Nov 22: Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government of protecting industrialist Adani, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President DK Shivakumar today called for his arrest to save the country’s reputation.

Addressing a press conference at the KPCC office, he said, “Our leader Rahul Gandhi has been highlighting corruption by industrialist Adani. In spite of that, investigative agencies have not taken any action.”

“An American Court has indicted Adani in connection with irregularities in a green energy project. The Centre must take this seriously and bring him to book. The BJP government has arrested many Opposition leaders including chief ministers, why can’t it arrest an industrialist,” he questioned.

“There is no point in protecting Adani. The government has to protect the people of the country who have invested thousands of crores in Adani’s companies,” he urged.

Asked about BJP leaders challenging the Congress government to attach Adani’s assets in Karnataka, he said, “Let the Union government initiate an inquiry and communicate to the state government to take action, then we will take suitable action here.”

Replying to a query if the State government would cancel Adani Group’s Rs 20,000 crore investments in the state, he said, “We are not against any investment which is clean. We will discuss this during Invest Karnataka event.”

Channapatna by-election result
Asked about the Channapatna by-election results, he said, “The exit poll predictions will be reversed tomorrow. Congress will win all three seats.”

When pointed out to his statement that he was the candidate for Channapatna by-election, he said, “Yes, I am the candidate in Channapatna. The credit for victory or loss must go to me. I am the one who issued the ticket to CP Yogeshwar. I was the face of the election. We are confident of winning.”

No communication from AICC
Asked if Congress MLAs in Maharashtra and Jharkhand would be shifted to Karnataka if there is hung assembly in those states, he said, “No AICC leader has contacted me regarding this. I don’t have any information on that. We will to wait for results tomorrow.”

Asked what transpired during his discussion with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, he said, “He was here for a treatment and I spoke to him on the phone. No politics was discussed.”

Replying to a query if ‘resort politics’ was possible post results, he said, “We are confident that our government will be formed there. I am expecting good news tomorrow.”

Defamation case against BJP
Asked if a complaint would be lodged against BJP for false advertisement on Karnataka’s guarantee schemes, he said, “We will certainly lodge a complaint. The CM has already instructed the officials to do so. We will file a defamation case against them.”

Asked about Wayanad by election results, he said Congress party would win with a huge margin. The voting percentage was less as about 20% of voters live and work abroad, he added.

Asked if action would be initiated against Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, he said, “I have spoken to Zameer. He is a senior leader. He has made that statement in an emotional outburst, but it is wrong. We will discuss this issue internally.”
