Bengaluru, Aug. 4: Giving a strong indication that polls to the Urban Local Body (ULB)- BBMP will be held shortly after a vacuum of nearly two years, the state government late on Wednesday night notified the draft reservation list.
A time period of seven days is given for filing objections and suggestions to the notification.
It may ne recalled that the notification on the reservation list comes days after the Supreme Court’s order to complete all formalities at the earliest and hold the BBMP polls. Polls to the BBMP is pending since September 2019.
Supreme Court on July 28 directed the state government to announce ward reservation list in a weeks time and enable the state election commission to make necessary arrangements to hold elections.
Of the 243 seats, 81 seats have been reserved for OBC, 28 for the SC and four for the ST communities. A total of 130 seats have been reserved for the candidates hailing from the general category. In all, half of the seats in all the above-mentioned reserved categories have been further reserved for women as mandated in the law.
