Bengaluru, Feb 7: Bengaluru Torpedoes, one of the leading teams in the on-going second season of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 boasts of having four talented players from Karnataka making waves on the court.
These players believe that the tournament is helping to revive the sport of volleyball in their home state.
Sudheer Shetty, Vinayak Rokhade,
Srajan Shetty and K Tharun Gowda are demonstrating excellent skills on the court.
According to the quartet, the RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 will provide more opportunities for young volleyball players in Karnataka and help build interest in the sport. With more than a dozen players from Karnataka participating in different teams in the league, the future of Karnataka volleyball looks bright.
Vinayak Rokade, originally from Belgaum, initially had an interest in cricket but was encouraged by his teachers to pursue volleyball. He went on to represent his zone, state, and finally the National team.
“I see that the RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 is a valuable platform for the growth of volleyball as well as the players. We have double Olympic medal winner David Lee as our coach who is turning our weaknesses into strengths,” said Vinayak, who plays the role of a setter in the team.
The players are putting in the work to maintain their physical fitness, with extensive training starting two months before the league. They are also following a healthy and balanced diet to support their performance.
It is particularly special that two players, Sudheer Shetty and Srajan Shetty, are from Karkala in Udupi. Sudhileer, who plays for Bangalore Torpedos and works for South Western Railway, is grateful for the opportunity to compete in the league.
Srajan, a promising young player, was training at the Sports Authority of India before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his training. He won a gold medal in Khelo India last year with his team.
K. Tharun Gowda attributes his success in volleyball to the support of Alwas Education Institute. “The RuPay Prime Volleyball League powered by A23 is a beacon of hope for volleyball players in Karnataka, I am happy that the tournament is contributing to the revival of the sport in the state and provides a platform for players to shine,” said the ace attacker.
Coach David Lee, who has represented teams from various countries, is confident that his experience will help the team grow even more. With such talented players and dedicated coaching, the future of Karnataka volleyball looks bright.
