Bengaluru, Feb. 22: Various measures are being taken to simplify procedures to issue building stability and fire safety certificates to schools and colleges during renewal and providing new licence to education institutions across the state, said primary and secondary education minister B. C. Nagesh.
Mr. Nagesh held a meeting at the Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday with officials from education department, public works department and fire safety department about obtaining the building stability and fire safety certificates for education institutions.
School and college authorities have submitted memorandum and requisition for fresh licence and for renewal of the licence to run the schools and colleges. It is mandatory for education institutions to provide No Objection Certificates (NOC) from different agencies to prove that the building stability is strong and free from any possible fire accidents.
The present rule mandates to provide NOC even for building with a single floor. But this rule is causing problem for such school authorities in getting their licence renewed. As a result, future of thousands of students is in jeopardised, if the authorities of respective school fail to provide NOC.
In this background, a detailed meeting was held with the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in December.
Apart from complying with the conditions laid down by the Supreme Court for fire safety, the government is mulling to simplify the procedures for renewal of the licences. Hence, authorities of PWD and fire safety department have been directed to issue the report on the NOC and other pre-requisites within one week, said Mr. Nagesh.
