Bengaluru, July 8: In a major announcement aimed at establishing Karnataka as a global hub for quantum technologies, Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology N.S. Boseraju announced that a ‘Karnataka Quantum Action Plan’ will be formulated and subsequently unveiled by the Chief Minister.
Speaking at the Curtain Raiser of the Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Minister Boseraju highlighted the state’s commitment to making Karnataka a frontrunner in the emerging field of quantum technology.
He emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar, the Congress-led Government of Karnataka is taking proactive steps to establish the state as a Quantum Capital of India. Like in IT and aerospace, Karnataka is gearing up to make a strong mark in the quantum domain. Quantum technologies are already playing a transformative role in various sectors, contributing significantly to economic and social progress.
“Bengaluru, being the innovation capital of India, already possesses the necessary ecosystem to support quantum advancements. It is in this backdrop that the Quantum India Bengaluru Summit will be held on July 31 and August 1,” he said.
Notably, the summit will feature keynote addresses by two Nobel Laureates in quantum physics—Prof. Duncan Haldane (Nobel Prize 2016) and Prof. David Gross (Nobel Prize 2004)—marking a proud moment for India and Karnataka.
Karnataka has made significant strides in the quantum space compared to other states. The presence of world-class educational institutions, technological talent, and an advanced industrial base gives Karnataka the capability to become Asia’s Quantum Hub. The upcoming Karnataka Quantum Action Plan will further boost this momentum.
Minister Boseraju also stated that a Quantum Task Force comprising leading experts in the field will be constituted to formulate the Karnataka Quantum action plan.
Key components of the Karnataka Quantum Action Plan:
•Integrating quantum education at various levels of the academic ecosystem
•Establishing cutting-edge research infrastructure in collaboration with institutions like IISc
•Providing targeted support to startups and industries in quantum computing, communication, and cryptography
•Drafting policies and regulatory frameworks to encourage innovation in the quantum domain
Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 Summit:
The Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 Summit will be held on July 31 and August 1, and will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri D.K. Shivakumar. On the opening day, Prof. Duncan Haldane, Nobel Laureate of 2016, will deliver the keynote address. Over two days, the summit will feature in-depth sessions and expert exchanges on themes such as:
•Quantum in Computing, Finance, and AI
•Quantum in Healthcare
•Quantum in Peripherals and Hardware
•Quantum in Society and Art
•Quantum in Security
Dr. Ekarupa Kaur, Principal Secretary of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T Departments; Mr. Sadashiva Prabhu, Director of KSTePS; Prof. Arindam Ghosh, Summit Director; and Prof. Akshaya Naik, Co-Director of the Summit were present on the occassion.
