Belagavi, July 5: In a stirring address at the 25th Convocation of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belagavi, the Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, called on the university’s graduates to dedicate their knowledge and skills to the service of the nation.
“Challenges will arise, and failures are inevitable — but failure is a lesson, and every struggle is an opportunity,” the Governor said, addressing the newly conferred graduates. Quoting former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, he added, “Dreams are not what you see in sleep; dreams are what keep you awake. Dream big, dream in the national interest, and strive to realize those dreams.”
Paying tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the Governor described him as an “embodiment of technological excellence, visionary thinking, and patriotic spirit.” He urged graduates to follow this legacy, reminding them that knowledge is not merely a means to secure employment, but a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
Highlighting the transformative era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Shri Gehlot noted the impact of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, the Internet of Things, and clean energy. “In this rapidly evolving landscape, your role as young technologists is crucial. You are at the forefront of innovation in a world that is now more interconnected than ever before.”

The Governor praised national initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, and Digital India, acknowledging the significant contributions of young professionals and students in these movements. “Your innovations, your ideas, and your work ethic are central to making India a developed nation. The challenges facing our society — from rural irrigation to cybersecurity — present enormous opportunities for impact,” he said.
Encouraging a mindset of lifelong learning, the Governor remarked, “New technologies are emerging every day. What is cutting-edge today will be obsolete tomorrow. Stay curious, stay driven, and stay committed to innovation.”
He also highlighted Karnataka’s leading role in the technology sector, noting, “Bengaluru is recognized globally as a technology hub, and Karnataka continues to lead in IT, biotechnology, startups, and innovation. It is now your responsibility to take this legacy forward and contribute to India’s emergence as a global technological superpower.”
Concluding his address, the Governor urged graduates to use their education in the service of the greater good. “Let us pledge to move forward with knowledge, to innovate with purpose, and to make our state and our country proud.”
The convocation ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, VTU Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar, and other distinguished guests.
