2023 assembly polls, ‘water fight’ to woo voters?

January 8: Political parties have locked their horns over water politics! Water has become a hot and burning poll issue to attract voters ahead of 2023 assembly polls and BBMP polls, which is due for over a year now!
Congress had taken up padayatre (march to Mekedatu) demanding the state to implement Mekedatu project and solve water crisis.
Considering the kind of momentum and the heat the padayatre is receiving, the ruling BJP is making all out efforts to stop them.
The rapidly increasing Corona has become a blessing in disguise for BJP to stop the padayatra by imposing night curfew, weekend curfew therby imposing restrictions on political rallies and march.
Meanwhile, JD(S) too is not lagging behind to hog political mileage.
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy launched Janata Jaladhare on Friday.
This rally aims to attract the attention of union government to expedite the irrigation and drinking water projects that are lying in cold storage for ages now.
Sasya shamala, is the fight for irrigation projects and jala shamala is the combat for drinking water projects. The campaign to collect river water kickstarts from January 26.
The JD(S) aims to collect water from 15 rivers at different locations across the state. This collected water will be brought to JD (S) party office, JP Bhavan with fanfare and ganga pooja would be offered to it.
This is not only an emotional move, but
Mr. Kumaraswamy has openly asking for clear majority for his party to ensure all pending water projects are commissioned and executed.
