Will hold meetings with IT-BT companies and listen to their grievances: DCM DK Shivakumar Our work is the answer to our critics

Bengaluru Express

Bengaluru, Oct 18: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today said that he and the IT minister will hold meetings with the IT-BT companies to listen to their grievances on urban governance.

“The IT minister and I will hold separate meetings with IT-BT companies. Our work is the answer to those who criticise. We are focused on our work and are not bothered about unwarranted criticism,” he said speaking to reporters after participating in the ‘Walk with Bengaluru’ at K R Pura.

“Setting up five new corporations is a historic decision. We are collecting taxes worth Rs 6,000 crore from the city of which Bengaluru East has a share of Rs 1,600 crore. The taxes that the respective corporation collects must now be used in the same zone. Bengaluru East corporation is a very resourceful corporation and the proceeds will be used to fix the civic issues here. Earlier the amount collected here was used in other parts of the city too. We have taken many steps to expedite works. The Council of the corporation can spend up to Rs 10 crore without tenders and the Commissioner Rs 3 crore without tenders,” he said.

B khata to A khata
“Our government has given a Deepavali gift to the people of Bengaluru by deciding to issue A khata to people who have B khata by taking just 5% of the guidance value.

“There are a lot of encroachment cases in K R Pura area and many illegal buildings have been constructed. As per the Supreme Court order, they will be demolished. We have exempted sites up to 30×40 from OC and CC but we will not allow construction without set-backs,” he added.

KR Pura fair to be shifted
The public have offered many suggestions during the public interaction. We will look into all of them soon. The K R Pura Santhe (fair) is causing traffic jams and we will look into possibilities of shifting it to some other place.”

Apologies if any inconvenience caused
“Sincere apologies if any inconvenience has been caused by our enthusiastic party workers who were participating in Walk with Bengaluru programme. I will meet the party workers some other time as this meeting is meant for the public. We have recorded your grievances and suggestions. Our officials will look into it and redress it,” he added.

Tunnel road to be linked to metro, flyovers and National Highways
“This region has a national highway, flyovers and metro. We will link the tunnel road to all these infrastructures in this area. We may not be able to solve all 100% of your grievances but we are making our sincere attempt,” he explained.

Q&A
Asked about criticism about lack of development, he said, “Critics will critique. We have created a separate corporation to ensure that the tax collection from the specific area is spent on the same area.”

Asked about deadline given by Contractors’ Association, he said, “I have called for a meeting and I will speak to them. I am not scared of their threats. The previous BJP government had tendered more projects than budgeted and hence the issue with clearance of payments. We are trying to clear their bills in a phased manner.”

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw
Asked if Kiran Mazumdar Shaw had a discussion with him on developing about 10-15 roads in Bengaluru, he said, “Happy about it, let her choose the roads she wants to develop. She has not discussed anything with us yet. We will offer full cooperation if she wants to take up some work.”
