“Unity Across Faiths Key to Nation Building: Siddaramaiah at Kittur Utsav”

Kittur, Oct 26: “A nation is its people. Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna taught us to love everyone, no matter their religion or caste. We must follow their teachings,” said Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging people to embrace unity and harmony.

The Chief Minister participated in the valedictory function of the grand 200th Kittur Utsav, honoring the legacy of Rani Chennamma. He mentioned that his government was the first to officially declare this celebration to ensure younger generations learn about Chennamma’s history. Quoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he said, “Those unaware of history cannot create it.”

“I am a great admirer of Sangolli Rayanna and Kittur Chennamma. We must understand the struggles and values of freedom fighters like Rani Chennamma, Rani Abbakka, and Jhansi Rani, who fought against British rule. Their legacy teaches us to love our people. Real patriotism lies in loving and serving all citizens, regardless of caste or religion,” he added.

He further connected this message with the teachings of 12th-century reformer Basavanna, who promoted love and equality beyond caste and religious differences. “This is why our government declared Basavanna as a cultural leader,” he explained.

The Chief Minister stressed that social justice is impossible as long as inequality based on caste and religion exists. “True freedom is not just political but also social and economic, and it must be accessible to all communities.”

“Chennamma and Rayanna sacrificed their lives for the freedom and well-being of the people. Their sacrifice is the highest form of patriotism, and we must uphold these values,” he concluded.

The event was presided over by MLA Babasaheb Patil, in the presence of prominent religious leaders, including Madivala Raj Yogindra Swamiji and Panchamashali Jagadguru Basava Jayamruthyunjaya Swamiji. Several dignitaries, including Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, Chief Whip Ashok M. Pattan and Kannada Development Authority chairman Purushottam Bilimale, were also present.
