September 15: International Democracy Day

Let us stand up against the evil forces attacking democracy: CM calls for a democratic movement

Bengaluru, Sep 6: We must rise against the forces attacking democracy. The struggle of democrats must prevail, said CM Siddaramaiah.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting held at Vidhana Soudha regarding the 2500 km long human chain and democracy celebration, stretching from Bidar to Chamarajanagar on the occasion of International Democracy Day on Sep 15 he said.

“There are not many evil forces trying to destroy democracy. Though they are few in number, they are highly active. Even though democrats are large in number, they are not as active. Let us stand against those who are attempting to destroy democracy,” the CM remarked.

He emphasized the need to make the unprecedented and historic human chain movement, stretching from Bidar to Chamarajanagar, a success. “I, too, will be part of the human chain in front of Vidhana Soudha. Everyone should participate,” he urged.

He added that only if democracy and the Constitution are preserved can the country’s development and social change be achieved.

Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, Waqf Minister Rahman Khan, Minister for Women and Child Welfare Laxmi Hebbalkar, the Chief Minister’s political secretaries Govindaraju and Naseer Ahmad, and the state government’s Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, along with more than 200 progressive organizations, were involved in the meeting.
