Bengaluru, June 15: As a prelude to the Global Wind Day (June 15), the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), in association with the Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA) and with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, successfully organized the ‘Run with the Wind’ marathon to raise awareness about the immense potential of wind energy and its transformative role in achieving a sustainable future.
Flagged off from the KREDL office premises, the event saw enthusiastic participation from over 500 runners comprising school, college students, industry professionals, government staff, and clean energy advocates. The 2K and 5K run categories symbolized a collective stride towards a greener, more sustainable Karnataka.

The marathon was graced by the presence of several distinguished dignitaries, including:
Mr. K.P. Rudrappaiah, Managing Director, KREDL, Dr. P.K. Dash, Director, MNRE, Government of India, Mr. Rajesh Katyal, Director General, National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Mr. T.M. Shivaprakash, CEO, Karnataka Solar Power Development Corporation Ltd. (KSPDCL), Mr. N. Amarnath, General Manager, KSPDCL, Mr. U.B. Reddy, Vice Chairman, IWPA and MD, Enerfra Projects (India) Pvt. Ltd.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. K.P. Rudrappaiah emphasized Karnataka’s leadership in renewable energy. “Wind power plays a crucial role in advancing the renewable energy sector. Under the guidance of Energy Minister K.J. George and Mr. Gaurav Gupta, ACS, Energy, the State is leading the way in clean energy innovation and production. We are working towards making Karnataka the number one state in the country in the renewable energy sector.”
He further highlighted Karnataka’s landmark achievement in wind energy: “In FY 2024–25, Karnataka added a record 1,332 MW of wind capacity—the highest in the country—surpassing traditional leaders like Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. With a total installed wind capacity of 7,351 MW, the state stands as India’s Wind Power Champion.”
Mr. U.B. Reddy, Vice Chairman of IWPA, underlined wind energy’s growing importance: “Wind power is a vital driver of India’s clean energy transition and has played a key role in achieving the national target of 50% non-fossil fuel-based energy and shall contribute for achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070. IWPA remains committed to promoting wind energy as a cornerstone of a low-carbon economy.”
The event concluded with a resounding message of unity and purpose, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to a sustainable future through collective action and awareness.
