Revenue minister R. Ashok tests positive for Covid-19, will the CM and his cabinet be quarantined?

Covid-19 seems to have entered Vidhana Soudha. This time, Revenue Minister R. Ashok has tested positive for Covid-19 sending shivers down the spine for his primary and secondary contacts.

Mr. Ashok has isolated himself and tweeted that he has been tested positive for Covid-19 and his vitals are normal. He has urged his primary and secondary contacts to get tested for Covid-19.

“I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am healthy. Those who were in contact with me may please get themselves tested,” the minister tweeted. It is said that he has been admitted at a private hospital. However, his family sources said that he is home isolated.

As per government protocol, the health authorities track primary and secondary contacts and isolate them to make sure that virus does not spread to others. In some cases, apartments, roads and houses will be sealed down. Now, the question is will the Vidhana Soudha be sealed down.

On Thursday, Mr. Ashok was part of cabinet meeting and a series of meetings held with Health Minister K. Sudhakar and a host of top bureaucrats and a battery of officials were his primary contacts!

BBMP administrator Rakesh Singh, BBMP chief commissioner Gourav Gupta, BBMP special commissioner Dr. Trilok Chandra too are primary contacts. There is a need to be tested and quarantined.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his entire cabinet is primary contacts of Mr. Ashok. Further, he also attended swearing-in of newly elected Members of Legislative Council (MLC) at the Banquet hall of Vidhana Soudha on Thursday. The health authorities have the tough task to trace all these politicians and isolate them.

But the question is will the health authorities take risk to quarantine the entire state cabinet, newly elected MLCs and a host of supporters who were part of the swearing-in ceremony?

A few senior politicians have wished him speedy recovery.

Instructed Yelahanka zone authorities to track primary contracts of Mr. Ashok and take necessary action, said BBMP Chief Health Officer (CHO) Balasundar.
