Bengaluru, Aug. 15:
As per the directions of the Honourable Chief Commissioner, a footpath encroachment clearance drive is being actively carried out in the Rajarajeshwarinagar Zone to ensure better and unobstructed pedestrian pathways, stated Zonal Commissioner Dr. Satish B.C.

In response to complaints about pedestrian and vehicular movement being hindered due to footpath encroachments across the zone, a focused operation was conducted to remove obstacles and enable smooth and safe pedestrian access.

Under the leadership of Zonal Commissioner Dr. Satish B.C., the drive was undertaken from Krishna Priya Convention Hall in Kengeri Division to the Kia Showroom on Mysore Road. Similarly, under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Arathi Anand, the operation was carried out along Bombay Dyeing Road in Rajarajeshwarinagar Division, stretching from Mathikere Main Road to the left side of the Yeshwanthpur Flower Market.
During the operation, various unauthorized constructions and obstructions such as roadside shops, temporary roofing structures, sheds, stairways, compound walls, puncture shops, petty shops, and advertisement boards erected on the footpaths were cleared.
Inspection of Single-Use Plastic:
Alongside the footpath clearance operation, inspections were also carried out at various shops and commercial establishments to check the usage of single-use plastics. In the Rajarajeshwarinagar Division alone, fines amounting to ₹79,000 were collected from 43 vendors found violating the plastic ban. Awareness was also raised among shopkeepers against the use of single-use plastic.
As a continuation of this encroachment clearance initiative, the next round of operations is scheduled for August 22, covering the following areas:
- Kengeri Division: From Syndicate Layout (Shoprite) to Andrahalli Circle, along the Andrahalli Main Road
- Rajarajeshwarinagar Division: From TVS Cross Junction to Tumkur Junction via Peenya Police Station route
All individuals and establishments encroaching on footpaths within the zone are hereby informed to voluntarily vacate such encroachments. Failure to do so will result in clearance by BBMP officials and necessary legal action as per applicable rules, the Zonal Commissioner warned.
Today’s operation witnessed participation from senior officials including the Chief Engineer, Health Officer, Executive Engineers, Medical Health Officers, Assistant Executive Engineers, and other officials of the zone.
