For the effective implementation of various government schemes, department officials must formulate action plans and work with dedication and interest to achieve the targets within the financial year, instructed former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai.
He presided over the DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) meeting held on Thursday at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium. During the meeting here on Thursday.
He reviewed the progress of centrally sponsored schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission, Housing, and Grameen Sadak Yojane and expressed dissatisfaction. He said not a single officer is submitting development reports. ” You keep citing reasons—work doesn’t need excuses, it needs willingness. If you cannot solve problems, why come to work? Officers must care about society and pay greater attention to cleanliness in both villages and cities. If a project takes five to six years to complete, how can we provide good governance to the public?” You must complete projects within the set timeframe, with responsibility and coordination’.
House must to banish poverty
The MP said while food, education, and basic facilities are being provided to those below the poverty line in the country, housing remains a major challenge. A home is essential to eliminate poverty. Officials must work eith responsibly to ensure eligible beneficiaries receive housing.

Stop forest encroachment
The former CM said encroachment on forest lands is happening in the district, with private individuals cultivating on forest land. Forest department officials should not remain confined to their offices but visit forest areas and take action to prevent encroachment. The district has 9.5 per cent of forest area, including 2,000 hectares identified as “deemed forest,” currently under survey. Officials said steps are being taken to curb encroachments.
Service Roads
Bommai said service roads and side drains constructed by the National Highways Authority must be built in an organized and neat manner to prevent waterlogging. There should be no complaints about service roads or drains. Officials must urgently repair damaged service roads in Shiggaon town.
Identify fake ration cards
The former CM said there is a rise in fake ration cards in the district. Officials must ensure that only eligible individuals receive BPL cards. Complaints have been received about bribes being taken during the issuance of medical certificates for emergency healthcare services. Hence, food department officials must strictly verify cases before approving ration cards for medical emergencies.
Officials informed the meeting that the district has 46,614 AAY and 3,50,953 BPL ration cards—totaling 3,97,567—of which 23,906 are currently under verification for eligibility.
Bribes for School Admissions
He said teachers at KPS (Karnataka Public Schools) are allegedly demanding money for student admissions, which is disgraceful. If there’s corruption even in admitting poor children to schools, what future does this country have?” Education department officials seem to be involved. Such cases must not be repeated and will be probed.
