Our Goal is to Permanently Eliminate Black Spots in the City: Maheshwar Rao

Bengaluru Express
Bengaluru, July 6:

Our goal is to permanently eliminate black spots in the city, stated Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao.

While addressing a meeting held on Saturday with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) regarding solid waste management within the East Zone, he emphasized the need to eliminate black spots across all parts of the city in a sustainable manner and stressed that zonal-level actions must be taken to achieve this.

Strict monitoring and imposition of penalties are being enforced on individuals who dump waste by the roadside.

He further added that sustainable solutions to the city’s waste management issues must be prioritized, including the establishment of more composting units and bio-methanation plants at the source. Discussions will be held with relevant officials to take appropriate decisions in this regard.

Zonal Commissioner Snehal stated that a comprehensive plan will be formulated to address the waste management challenges in the East Zone. She announced a campaign will be launched to control single-use plastic. Citizens can now report waste-related issues via WhatsApp at 9448197197 or by calling the toll-free number 1533.

Key Suggestions from Citizens:

  • Appoint sanitation volunteers to assist with cleanliness initiatives.
  • Take effective measures to prevent dumping of waste along roadsides, in vacant plots, and stormwater drains.
  • Increase the number of auto-tippers in the Indiranagar area.
  • Conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns on waste disposal practices.
  • Establish composting units within each ward.
  • Provide separate bins for wet and dry waste to prevent mixed waste collection.
  • Implement stricter enforcement to control single-use plastics.
  • Take steps to prevent the dumping of furniture, sofas, commodes, and mattresses by the roadside.

The meeting was also attended by CEO of BSWML Dr. K. Harish Kumar, Joint Commissioner Saroja, BSWML Chief Operating Officer Ramamani, Chief Engineers Basavaraj Kabade, Lokesh, Suguna, and other concerned officials.
