Not just Yatnal, entire BJP is insulting Basavanna: DCM

Bengaluru, Dec 2: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today lashed out at the BJP for tarnishing the legacy of Basavanna.

“It is not just Basavanagouda Patil Yatnal who has insulted Basavanna, the entire BJP is at it. Let the BJP keep gems like Yatnal with themselves, it is their internal matter. Has Vijayendra, Yediyurappa, Somanna, Bommai condemned his statement? This shows that BJP is against Basavanna. Many seers have said that Yatnal must be admitted to a mental hospital for treatment for his statements on Basavanna,” he said while addressing a press conference at the KPCC office on Queen’s Road.

“Basavanna’s thinking is Congress’s thinking. When Siddaramaiah took oath in his first term, he took oath on Basava Jayanthi. We have made Basavanna’s photo mandatory at all government offices. We have also declared hm a Cultural icon,” he said.

“It was Basavanna who propagated the philosophy of equal share for all and equal life for all. We are taking that philosophy forward,” he added.

Asked about Yatnal’s statement that he has videos of his friendship with Vijayendra, he said, “I am the DCM of the state. Yediyurappa had got some letters signed for the development of his constituency. When Yediyurappa was the CM, he had promised to do some developmental works in my constituency. It is our duty to work for the development of all constituencies.”

Asked about BJP leaders statement that DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah are not showing their differences with each other, he said, “I am not the one who is into idol worship but I am devoted to the party. Party continues irrespective of who is there or not.”
