Need to integrate ethics, knowledge and humanity in education: AICTE Chairman Dr. T. G. Sitharam

Bengaluru, Nov. 7: Integrating ethics, knowledge, and humanity into education is an important path before us, said Dr. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Speaking at the Vice Chancellors’ Conclave on “Manthan: Integration of Indian Knowledge Systems in Contemporary Higher Education”, organized by AICTE in collaboration with the Indian Council for Higher Education and the All India Management Association (AIMA) near Kengeri, he emphasized the need to adopt a value-based, holistic, and interdisciplinary approach to education. Implementing the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) within mainstream education remains a major challenge, he added.

Dr. M. K. Sridhar, President of the Centre for Educational Studies and an education expert, said that the Indian Knowledge System must be integrated keeping in mind the present and future needs of education. He opined that this could be effectively achieved in a systematic and gradual manner.

Dr. T. Kotireddy, Vice-Chancellor of ICFAI University, noted that the vast wealth of the Indian Knowledge System was sidelined due to colonial influences. Integrating IKS with contemporary education is the way to achieve sustainable education, fostering lifelong learning, critical thinking, interdisciplinary understanding, and social-environmental responsibility, he said.

Dr. Muddu Vinay, Vice-Chancellor of IFHE, remarked that the Indian Knowledge System encompasses elements of artificial intelligence, education, and research. It also contains immense and untapped resources. Going beyond Western educational models, it can play a crucial role in management and technical education, he added.

Among others present at the conclave were Dr. Rohit Singh, Director of AIMA, Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice-Chancellor of IIFT, and Dr. Vinay Joshi, Academic Dean of IFHE.
