Bengaluru, Aug 3: In a continued effort to control drug use in the state, a new phase of the awareness campaign has been initiated.
Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana, a comprehensive two-month “Drug-Free Karnataka Campaign” has been launched across the state in collaboration with various government departments.
Running from August 1 to September 30, 2025, the primary goal of this campaign is to address the increasing abuse of drugs and its harmful consequences. P.I.Sreevidya, director of National Livelihood Mission (NLM) under the department of skill development, shared information about the initiative.
She stated that widespread public participation and education are being promoted through a series of awareness programs organized at all administrative levels starting from each gram panchayat.
A special feature of the “Drug-Free Karnataka Campaign” is that it is being conducted across the state involving women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and various other community groups.
Comprehensive awareness will be created about the violence, abuse, and social problems caused by drug use and addiction. To prevent drug use and educate communities about its harmful effects, various programs will be arranged at the district, taluk, and gram panchayat levels in collaboration with different government departments.
Sreevidya emphasized that every member of society should understand the problems and negative consequences related to drug abuse and addiction, and lead a drug-free life. Our aim is to build a healthy, safe, and drug-free society in every village through awareness led by self-help groups.
Special Programs under the Campaign
To successfully implement the campaign, various activities will be organized at the district, taluk, gram panchayat, and ward levels through self-help groups.
These activities include: street plays, awareness rallies, lectures, workshops, pamphlets and posters, social media and digital campaigns, health counselling campa, short film screenings and pledge-taking ceremonies.
