Bengaluru, July 29:
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to initiate steps for developing the pedestrian pathway along the Bannerghatta Main Road Metro corridor as a model pedestrian walkway.
During a foot inspection conducted today along the stretch from Dairy Circle, covering pedestrian paths, potholes, cleanliness, and related civic issues within the South Zone limits, the Chief Commissioner addressed officials and issued directives.
The pink line of the Namma Metro runs along Bannerghatta Main Road. The Chief Commissioner emphasized that pedestrian pathways along this route should be constructed uniformly and transformed into model walkways. Damaged slabs and kerb stones must be repaired, and the height of elevated pavements should be reduced to ensure uniformity across the stretch.
Ensuring Last-Mile Connectivity:
He stated that well-designed pedestrian pathways are essential to ensure seamless last-mile connectivity between public transport nodes such as metro and bus stands. Improving walkability will increase public transport usage. Therefore, obstructions on footpaths must be removed, encroachments cleared, and citizen-friendly pedestrian infrastructure developed.
Construction of Bus Bays:
Observing the lack of designated bus stops along Bannerghatta Main Road, the Chief Commissioner instructed officials to construct proper bus bays wherever road width permits and to ensure the provision of passenger shelters.
Addressing Garbage Black Spots:
The Chief Commissioner directed officials to identify garbage black spots along the road and take strict action to prevent littering. Penalties must be imposed on violators. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness near roadside stormwater gratings to ensure smooth drainage during rains.
5.5 km Foot Inspection Conducted:
A 5.5 km inspection was carried out on foot by the Chief Commissioner and officials from Dairy Circle to Tavarekere, Jayadeva Hospital, JP Nagar 4th Phase, and up to IIMB. Directions were given to address various civic issues observed during the walk.
Grating Installation Over Storm water Drains:
In front of the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIMB), a storm water drain passes through the area. The Chief Commissioner instructed officials to install grating over the drain to facilitate safe pedestrian movement and to take immediate necessary actions.
Present during the inspection were Zonal Commissioner Digvijay Bodke, Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade, Executive Engineers, and other officials.
