Major parking ban in Gandhinagar: DCM

Bengaluru, June 22: Deputy Chief Minister  D K Shivakumar today said that parking will be banned for a stretch of one kilometer on main roads of Gandhinagar in order to ease traffic congestion.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the multi-story parking at Freedom park under Brand Bengaluru initiative, he said, “Bengaluru DC and Police Commissioner have banned parking for a stretch one kilometer on main roads in Gandhinagar. The new multi-story parking is historic. The fee has been fixed at a nominal rate of Rs 20-30 per hour.”

“People can park their vehicles and use commuter vehicles to Vidhana Soudha, Railway station and other places. This will help thousands of middle class people who visit Gandhinagar. This is a pilot project and this model will be extended to other parts of the city,” he said.

“The government will consider building double decker flyovers along the metros in the future. This will help the government build flyovers without acquiring lands. These projects will be done in coordination with BMRCL,” he said.

Second airport news true

Speaking to reporters later, he said, “What MB Patil said is true. We have submitted a proposal for the second airport in Bengaluru by 2032. Neighbouring states are preparing for airports and it is important that the State plan in advance to retain the traffic.

Ad policy

The DCM said the new draft advertising policy would be announced in the next two-three days for public review.

Addressing the media after a meeting with the BBMP officials, he said, “Fifteen days time is given to submit objections. The new advertising policy was pending due to court cases.”

“Group packages will be given for roads above 60 feet where advertising hoardings can be placed on private and government buildings. There will be regulations to ensure discipline in hoarding erection.
