Bengaluru, Aug 15:
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has instructed officials to undertake micro-planning to expedite the repair of potholes across the city.
Addressing officials in a virtual meeting held on Thursday to discuss swift pothole repairs, he directed that comprehensive micro-plans be prepared at the zonal level and that potholes be filled within stipulated timeframes.
He emphasized that potholes on major arterial and sub-arterial roads must be prioritized. Engineers within each zone are to conduct site inspections, identify potholes, and carry out repairs using appropriate materials such as hot mix, cold mix, or eco-fix solutions.
According to the Traffic Police Department, 4,500 potholes have been identified across major roads and ward-level roads in the city. Of these, 3,621 potholes fall under the limits of the BBMP, while the remaining 879 are outside its purview. The Chief Commissioner has instructed that all identified potholes under BBMP’s limits be repaired at the earliest.

He also stressed the need to identify roads still under the Defect Liability Period (DLP). If potholes are found on such roads, the respective contractors must be held accountable and instructed to carry out the repairs.
Potholes Mapped via GIS:
The potholes identified by the Traffic Police Department have been mapped using GIS. After the repairs, photographic documentation of each completed work will be attached, as informed by the Chief Engineer of the Projects Department.
List of Other Departments Involved:
A list of other departments — such as Metro, KPTCL, BESCOM, BWSSB, National Highways Authority, and others — that have carried out work on roads but failed to restore them properly will be compiled and submitted. Officials have been instructed to coordinate with these departments and ensure that repair works are undertaken.
Quality Assurance Emphasized:
All pothole repairs in the city must meet quality standards. The Chief Commissioner directed the TVCC and the Quality Control Division to inspect and assess the quality of repairs carried out.
The meeting was attended by Special Commissioner of the Projects Department, Karigowda; Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Karthik Reddy; all Zonal Commissioners including Satish, Suralkar Vikas Kishor , Snehal, Ramya, Digvijay Bodke, Ramesh; all Zonal Joint Commissioners; Chief Engineers, and other senior officials.
