Honour killing has been reported yet again from Mandya district.

In a bone chilling incident, a daughter has been strangulated to death by her father as she loved a boy from Dalit community.

The accused Suresh surrendered to police in Mysuru district on Wednesday. The shocking incident took place in Periyapattana police station limits.

Suresh, a resident of Kaggundi village in Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru district had killed his 17-year-old daughter Shalini in the wee hours of Monday, according to police.

Shalini from Vokkaliga community, considered as an upper caste, was studying in II PUC. She was in love with a dalit boy from neighbouring Mellahalli village. They were in love for the last three years, police added.

When the girl’s parents learnt this, they had lodged a complaint the girl was still a minor. To their shock, the girl recorded her statement against her parents in the police station. 

Further, she refused to go with her parents and confessed her true love with the boy.

The police had sent her to the Observation Home.

Although she asked them to take her to home, she stuck to her stand that she loved the boy. Police said that the parents could not digest the fact that she was in love with the boy. Father, who felt embarrassed and shamed strangulated her to death and threw her body in one of the farm lands at Dalit boy’s village. Further investigation is on, police said.
