Home Minister Launches ‘Police to Every Home’ Initiative

Visits Homes with Police Officials in Govindarajanagar to Hear Citizens’ Concerns

Bengaluru, Express
Bengaluru, July 18:
Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara officially launched the innovative ‘Police to Every Home’ initiative by the Karnataka State Police in Govindarajanagar, Bengaluru. The program aims to strengthen community policing by bringing police officers directly to citizens’ doorsteps.

Speaking at the launch after unveiling the official handbook prepared by the police department, Dr. Parameshwara emphasized that this is the first initiative of its kind in the country. “No other state has undertaken such a program. We are confident that this model will be successfully implemented across the nation,” he stated.

“Our police must become more people-friendly. Citizens should view police officers with a sense of brotherhood. To foster this bond, we must proactively visit people’s homes, listen to their problems, and help resolve them. This will create a positive impression of the police among the public,” he added.

He highlighted that beat officers already visit neighborhoods regularly, gathering data about residents, their issues, visitors, and any suspicious activities. “All this information is stored with Bengaluru Police,” he said.

Dr. Parameshwara urged the public to share any knowledge of illegal activities, drug abuse, or threats to children in their neighborhoods with police personnel. “All collected data will be digitized, and beat officers will be equipped with tablets. This will help in monitoring soft targets like public representatives, businesspeople, and writers,” he said.

He further stated, “Our department operates proactively. Currently, there are frequent disputes due to random vehicle parking on roadsides. We are planning to revamp the towing system. From now on, towing will be handled by police staff, and BBMP (city corporation) will provide the necessary vehicles for this purpose.”

On women’s safety, the Home Minister assured quick police response in distress situations. “We are committed to making Bengaluru a safe city for women. Under the Nirbhaya scheme, various safety measures have been implemented, including the establishment of 50 ‘Safe Eye Islands’ across the city. We will also work towards a drug-free Bengaluru,” he said.

He encouraged families to open up about any issues their children may be facing related to drug abuse or bad habits when police visit their homes. “Bengaluru Police are working confidently and efficiently,” he added.

Video Conference Discussion with Police Officials

Dr. Parameshwara also held a video conference with Superintendents of Police and Commissioners from various districts to gather feedback on the implementation of the initiative.

Dr. Arun, SP of Dakshina Kannada district, shared that the program has received a very positive response from the public and is proving beneficial in the region. “This is helping build better coordination between police and the public,” he noted.

Mithun, SP of Shivamogga district, noted that there are 478 beats in the district. “Initially, there was some public anxiety about the program. But after the officers began visiting homes, it became easier to raise awareness about issues like domestic abuse, cybercrime, and drug abuse,” he said.

Dr. S.D. Sharanappa, Police Commissioner of Kalaburagi City, praised the initiative for fostering police-community coordination and improving public perception of the police. “We will complete the assigned responsibilities as quickly as possible,” he assured.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Parameshwara stressed the importance of adhering to timelines and maintaining complete data on all households. “This information should be readily available when I visit police stations. Our police force should serve as a model for other states,” he said.

Govindarajanagar MLA Priya Krishna, State DGP Dr. M.A. Saleem, BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, and other senior police officials were present at the event.
