Governor Calls for Innovation and Research to Propel India’s Development at VTU Convocation

Belgaum, Feb. 9: The Governor of Thawarchand Gehlot on Saturday emphasized the importance of adopting new technologies and innovative methods to elevate India to the status of a developed nation.

Speaking at the 24th Convocation Ceremony of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belgaum.
Mr Gehlot said, “You are part of a generation that is fortunate to live in an era of technology, innovation, and sustainability. It is essential to focus on innovation and research, as your contributions will not only shape your own futures but also benefit humanity as a whole.”

The Governor stressed that technological advancements are fundamental to national progress and that institutions like VTU are crucial in driving this transformation. “Visvesvaraya Technological University, named after Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, has grown to be the largest technical university in the country. VTU has played a key role in shaping the future of technical education through industry-driven courses and a choice-based credit system for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs,” he said.











































Governor Gehlot also highlighted the university’s commitment to skill-based education, noting VTU’s collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to enhance industry-relevant training. This partnership aligns with VTU’s mission to provide high-quality education and prepare students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving job market.

“VTU has been at the forefront of revising curricula to align with contemporary needs in technical education. It continues to play a leading role in positioning Karnataka as a global destination for technical education and in promoting the internationalization of technical learning,” he added.

Concluding his address, Governor Gehlot congratulated the graduating students, urging them to step into their professional careers with a sense of responsibility and purpose. “Today marks the culmination of your academic journey and the beginning of your professional path. Along with technical expertise, this university has equipped you with the values of humanity, discipline, leadership, and innovation,” he said.

The event was also graced by Dr. Tessie Thomas, Former Director General of DRDO, and Prof. S. Vidyashankar, Vice Chancellor of VTU.
