Mangalore, Sep. 6:
The state government has suspended officials involved in the MUDA scam, clearly admitting a violation of the law, said former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking to the media after a meeting at the party office regarding the Dakshina Kannada-Udupi Legislative Council by-elections here on Thursday, he said the case related to the MUDA scam involving CM Siddaramaiah is in court. Predicting what will happen or not happen is not appropriate. The court will decide. Arguments are ongoing on both sides. The government has suspended the official involved, admitting the law violation. ” Let’s see what the court’s final decision will be.”
About the state government investigating scandals that occurred during the BJP’s tenure, he said, “Let them reopen the cases from our term, whatever they are. We are ready to face them. There is the law, and there is the court. Whether the cases are opened out of political vengeance or otherwise, we are ready to face them. Let’s see what happens.”
Disrespect to Teachers
On the withholding of the “Best Principal” award from the Kundapura principal who had implemented the hijab ban, the former CM said, the forces behind the hijab controversy are still active. Anti-national elements are still at work. At that time, the principal was merely performing his duty, which the High Court also upheld as correct. The case is pending in the Supreme Court. In such a situation, taking back the award from someone they themselves chose is not right. This is disrespectful to the teaching community. Somewhere, certain forces and favoritism politics have played a role. Amidst global changes, these decisions have been made. The Chief Minister should intervene and ensure the award is given, or else people will turn against them.
Asked about BJP Mahila Morcha State President’s call for an investigation into sexual harassment in politics, Bommai responded, wherever such harassment occurs, there should be a probe. How they conduct it is up to the government. There must be an inquiry, and the government should decide.
Opinion gathering
Regarding the Dakshina Kannada-Udupi Legislative Council by-elections, the MP spoke about gathering opinions at the BJP office in Mangaluru. He mentioned that a meeting was held today to discuss the selection of candidates for the upcoming local body council elections. “The selection process will be based on fundamental structures. We will discuss with leaders and seniors how to proceed with the election process. The core committee had decided to send me to Mangaluru to gather opinions from everyone, which I will be doing,” he said.
