Bidadi, May 28: To prioritize cleanliness and maintenance at the power generation unit using waste from the landfill, a meeting of senior officials from BBMP and the Energy Department will be convened, Energy Minister K. J. George said.
Following his inspection of the power generation unit at the landfill, the Energy Minister stressed the urgency of the situation, stating, “We must act swiftly to ensure that the foul odour does not cause inconvenience to the nearby residents. I instruct the officials to use odour control chemicals daily.”
Waste is transported in trucks from various parts of the city to the power generation unit, where it is utilized. There have been complaints that foul odours arise when the trucks unload the waste and return. Therefore, the Minister issued clear instructions to the officials to provide cleaning facilities within the premises to clean the trucks before they leave after unloading

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive approach to waste management, the Minister announced his plan. “We will hold a meeting with senior officials from BBMP and the Energy Department, along with officials from the private company managing the unit, to discuss the issues with the waste and the operation of the unit by private contractors,” he said.

Quick Compensation Distribution

“Recently, an accident occurred at the power generation unit, resulting in the tragic loss of five lives. The victims’ families are our top priority, and KPCL will soon distribute compensation of ₹5 lakh each to them. Additionally, the company operating the unit will also provide appropriate compensation,” the Minister stated, expressing his deep concern for the affected families.
