Bengaluru, July 1: Energy Minister K.J. George marked a significant milestone today by laying the foundation stone for the new power transformer repair center at KAVIKA – the state-owned power transformer manufacturing company.
The center is set to be established at an estimated cost of Rs. 14 crore, and aims to enhance the repair capabilities for transformers up to 20 MW capacity.
During the ceremony, Minister K.J. George expressed his confidence in completing the center within six months, emphasizing its crucial role in servicing transformers for both KPTCL and all ESCOMs. “This government-backed facility will streamline repair operations, ensuring swift maintenance and reliability,” he said.
Highlighting KAVIKA’s manufacturing potential, Minister George announced plans to bolster production capacity with additional financial support (working capital) from ESCOMs and banking institutions. “We are committed to ramping up annual production to meet demand, initially focusing on achieving 2,500 transformers annually,” he added.
Sharing more information, Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Managing Director, KAVIKA, underscored the repair center’s strategic importance in accelerating service delivery and supporting future manufacturing endeavors. “This initiative will not only expedite repair processes but also pave the way for local transformer manufacturing,” he noted.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. H.C. Lalit Raghav, Chairman, KAVIKA, Dr. N. Shivashankar, Managing Director, BESCOM, and Mr. Nagaraj, Executive Director, KAVIKA.
