Bengaluru, June 27: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot urged citizens to draw inspiration from the life and vision of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda and contribute meaningfully to the social, economic, cultural progress, and inclusive development of the nation.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the 516th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, organized by the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Foundation in Bengaluru.

“Nadaprabhu Kempegowda was not only a prominent leader under the Vijayanagara Empire but also a visionary statesman, city planner, social reformer, and proponent of equality and harmony,” the Governor said.
Paying tribute to Kempegowda’s enduring legacy, he added, “Today’s Bengaluru—recognized globally as a hub for technology, education, business, and culture—owes its foundation to the foresight and governance model envisioned by Kempegowda in 1537. His plans reflect sustainable development, decentralization, social inclusion, and efficient water management, principles still relevant in today’s urban planning.”
Highlighting Kempegowda’s contributions to environmental preservation, the Governor recalled the construction of over 100 tanks for water conservation, whose benefits continue to be seen in Bengaluru’s ecological balance.
“He prioritized justice, with systems for public hearings and local dispute resolution forming the backbone of his administration. His inclusive welfare schemes benefitted farmers, women, and all social groups. His promotion of religious harmony and preservation of sacred places stands as a testament to his secular spirit,” the Governor noted.

Drawing parallels between past and present, he remarked, “In today’s era of smart cities, green governance, and citizen-centric development, Kempegowda’s thoughts offer timeless lessons. His model of governance—rooted in education, agriculture, self-reliance, and civic engagement—remains a guiding light for policymakers and youth alike.”
He further emphasized that initiatives such as the Kempegowda Award, the construction of his memorial, and naming the Bengaluru International Airport after him reflect a collective homage to his ideals. “His life proves that vision, commitment, and hard work can transform cities and societies,” the Governor stated, calling upon the youth to protect cultural and ethical values alongside technological advancement.
Congratulating the recipients of the prestigious Kempegowda Award, the Governor lauded their service and dedication towards societal welfare and nation-building.
The event was graced by the presence of revered spiritual leaders including Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, Pujya Nanjavadhuta Swamiji of Sri Spatikpuri Mahasansthan, and Mahaswami Nishchalanandanatha Swamiji of Vishwa Vokkaligara Sansthan Math.
