Planning a permanent scheme in his name

Bengaluru Express
Bengaluru, Match 4: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today lauded the contribution of late Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in taking Bengaluru and India global.

Participating in the condolence motion in the Legislative Assembly, he said, “Manmohan Singh was a visionary. He contributed significantly to the growth of the country and Bengaluru through his economic reforms. He gave grants for flyovers to Electronic City, Bengaluru International Airport, Nelamangala and Kolar. He contributed significantly to Bengaluru’s development.”

“We have a plan to institute a permanent scheme in his name. We will deliberate on the scheme name and details in the days to come. He gave the country many schemes such as right to food, right to edutaion and right to information,” he added.

“Our State collects CSR amount of Rs 8,100 crores. It was Manmohan Singh who introduced the concept of CSR. Siddaramaiah led government has formed a committee under my leadership to set up 2000 Karnataka Public Schools with the help of CSR funds. We will build 500 such schools in the first phase. Each constituency will have about 5-8 schools. This scheme will stop rural students from coming to Bengaluru in search of good schools. We should all be thankful to Dr Manmohan Singh for introducing the CSR.”

“I wasnt made a minister in the coalition government. CM Siddaramaiah is aware of that. When Manmohan Singh came to Bengaluru, he took me aside at an event and told me to have patience. He told me that the coalition government must run at any cost. He said the whole world was looking at Bengaluru and he said he was willing to help the growth of Bengaluru,” he reminisced.

“”We received the news of Manmohan Singh’s demise when we were in the middle of the Gandhi Bharat programme in Belagavi. We used the same state to offer our tribute to the great leader.”

“Former MP Srinivasaiah was close to me. I have worked with him as an MLA for four terms. We worked together on many committees,” he said paying tribute to Srinivasaiah.

On the occasion, the DCM paid tribute to Jayavani Manche Gowda, Shyam Benegal, Na Disouzaabd Sukhri Bomme Gowda.
