Dr. Anil Kumar Sarwand Takes Charge as Bishop of the Methodist Church in Bangalore: A Kannada-Themed Ceremony

Bengaluru Express Bangalore, Feb. 4: Dr. Anil Kumar Sarwand officially assumed office as the Bishop of the Methodist Church in Bangalore today. He has been appointed as the new Bishop of the Bangalore Episcopal Area and formally took charge this morning in a well-organized ceremony.

The welcome ceremony for the newly appointed Bishop was held at the Baldwin International School auditorium in Richmond Town, Bangalore. Dr. Anil Kumar Sarwand succeeded Bishop Lakshman Namdev Karkare, who previously served in this role. A unique aspect of the event was that it was conducted entirely in Kannada.

The Executive Board of the Methodist Church in India convened in Mumbai on January 31, where Dr. Anil Kumar Sarwand was elected as the Bishop of the Bangalore Episcopal Area with a two-thirds majority. This region encompasses parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Goa.

Speaking after the formal installation, Dr. Anil Kumar Sarwand emphasized the need for collective responsibility in working for the betterment of the institution. He expressed his commitment to providing quality education to students and assured that he would address any existing issues in the region based on priority.

People from various parts of the state attended the event, reflecting the deep affection of rural communities, which, he noted, is invaluable. The ceremony was imbued with the essence of Kannada, helping to connect with people’s hearts. He further stated that the Methodist educational institutions would encourage the Kannada language. Additionally, he acknowledged the contributions of Christian religious leaders in composing hymns in Kannada, thereby enriching the linguistic and cultural heritage.
