Bengaluru, July 11: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Friday that discussion with Union Jal Shakti minister on state’s irrigation projects was fruitful.
Speaking to reporters at Kempe Gowda International Airport on his way back from Delhi, he said, “Union Jal Shakthi minister has assured us that our request for funds for Yettinahole drinking water project would be considered positively. It was a fruitful meeting.”
Replying to reporters’ queries on his Delhi visit, he said, “We discussed many aspects with Union Jal Shakthi minister C R Patil including releasing the gazette notification for increasing the height of Alamatti dam and approvals for Mekedatu project.”
“We also had a discussion with Union Minister for Environment Bhupendra Yadav on environmental clearance for Kalasa-Bhanduri project. He has suggested an amicable solution between the two states. We have moved court as Goa can’t object for this project,” he explained.
“We have also submitted proposals for new projects as well. I will travel to Delhi during the Monsoon session and discuss with our MPs how we can exert pressure on the government on these aspects.”
Asked about opposition to Lakkenahalli dam in Yettinahole project, he said, “There will be opposition for all infrastructural projects, but drinking water needs to be supplied. We are also thinking of using some of the other options for storing water in Koratagere taluk. We will discuss it with Parameshwar and place it before the Cabinet meeting.”
